Week 10 in Liberec

Ahoj! Greetings from... Prague! I am currently emailing from Prague... But i am staying in liberec. I am actually training! So my companion left today for olomouc and i didn't have a companion since our greenies don't get here until Wednesday. I am pretty pumped and it is going to be pretty fun! This week has been a pretty awesome week.

This week we started planning every thirty minutes of our time exactly where we will be and it seemed to make a difference. This week more than ever people on the street told us they could see something different in us. One said we had a fire in our eyes. It is cool to see that people can actually notice! Also on Tuesday for the first time in my mission someone who we set up a lesson with but didn't have their number came! Pretty cool! It was actually interesting. I ended up forgetting the keys to the church building so we had started talking outside when a member showed up (without keys) but she ended up teaching the whole lesson. It was really cool to see how things happen for a reason.

The highlight of the week was Wednesday! We had training in Prague and it was one of the coolest meetings. President had a killer training! It was about Joseph Smith. However as he started his presentation a picture of a man and woman came up on the screen.. Jan Pohořelicky and His wife.. They are our new mission president. He is a Czech! He lives in Trebic and is the ward mission leader there. It was the coolest spirit for us to feel that this is right. The Czechs now will have there own person at the head of the church. It is so cool and he is the right one for this country. President told us that in December he was in Brno and got out of his car in the parking lot and saw Jan he said he had the thought come that he would be the new mission president. Later that day he had a meeting with Jan and jan told him "President i just got a call from president Nelson of the Quorum of the 12 apostles and he wants to meet with me! How did the lord find me here in a little town in the Czech republic" IT was so cool and that just got things going. President went on to give his defense of the prophet Joseph. Joseph smith is a prophet of good. Period. IT was the coolest training. " If he was a fraud why invite people to replicate his experience" He talked about all of the experiences that he had with other people. It was the most powerful training. We are all here as missionaries because we had an experience with the Book of Mormon and Joseph smith. When we testify of Joseph we testify of Jesus Christ. Joseph took God out of the Box. It was the coolest meeting. Later Sister McConkie also gave a great training on Body language and the assistants trained on using baptismal calendars
We got home from Prague Wednesday night and my companion got a little sick... Think of Shads story in the corn field! So we got to go home for the night. Thursday was a good day and we found a cool family tracting, however he is a photographer and there house was very interesting.. We will leave it at that.Friday we had out culture night and saw Alice in wonderland. It was a ballet. It was interesting! But fun! Saturday we had a really good day. Invited back to that same families house and then had a good visit with a member and transfer calls!

Sunday was a good last day. We had a really good meeting and then branch council . We had fasted with in investigator who accepted a baptismal date and It was a solid end to the transfer. Now i am in Prague with the office elders. Tomorrow we have a meeting with president and we pick up our greenies on Wednesday! I am pumped and this week will be a lot of fun!

Love you all

Week 9 - Liberec -- a busy week!

Like i mentioned last week we were in Prague on Monday and also Friday of this past week! That means we missed a good portion of time in our area but none the less it was a good week.
We started on Tuesday with district meeting. We talked about testimony and i read all of the quotes dad has sent me on testimony. I also had each of the people talk about something relating to testimony. The young sister missionary about being a new missionary. My companion about 2x2 and the other sister shared her dads conversion story. It was really cool and we ended with a testimony meeting. This mission means everything to me.

While in Prague on Monday we got mail! Thanks Shad for the package! It was fun and some things i needed as well! Also i got a bunch of talks from dad which related almost exactly to this one investigator we had. This week we had warmer weather but on Wednesday it started to snow, and snow, and snow. We went to the student housing in the morning to contact. There was a small hill going up to it. We got there and watched as cars would go up and then slide all the way back down. We contacted for an hour through the snow and it turned into a real dangerous situation. Cars would come up or down and completely lose traction spinning and slamming into poles and other cars! We offered to help some people and it was awesome! However the highlight was when we tried to go down the hill ourselves. My companion fell and could not get up and then a car started to come down the hill... We finally got him out of the way and they drove past us giving us not very nice looks. And then we see that heavenly father has a sense of humor. There car started spinning all the way down and come to a nice stop. They had no injuries or anything but were just a little embarrassed, We offered to help them and they said no go help this other guy first. They thought it would be a good idea to come help as well. They took one step out of the car and the made the other 30 feet to where we stood on there butts sliding along the ice right to our feet. They were more than embarrassed they had laughed at us/ It was pretty funny!
The cool family we were so excited about last week did not want to meet with us anymore. They met us outside there gate and gave us the Book of Mormon back. Then on Friday we were back in Prague and i got to go contact for three hours with Elder Stacy from my MTC group. We had a blast! It was really fun to be with him. Saturday we had 4 lessons set up and all of them fell through and it just rained and was cold.. Wasn't the funnest afternoon but we made it through! Sunday we did some tracting and ended up tracting into the same guy my companion contacted on the bus there. He let us in and we got to teach the restoration! Sunday night we had dinner with the Hanzalovi, the branch president here. It was almost like we were missionaries in America! It was quite the meal and the night. All of the food was organic and amazing! We had a really yummy Swedish dish with meatballs and mashed potatoes. It was so fun and they are the coolest couple. They have one little boy too! We were full! Today we had a fun pday and we went to the spot where Germany Poland and the Czech republic meet with one of the members. It was pretty fun! Other than that not too much going on! This is the last week of the transfer so we will see what happens on Saturday. We also have training on Wednesday and culture night on Friday! Have a great week! Love you all!

Week 8 - česka, poland... Germany?

Hey all,
This week was a great week! Things are still tough here but we are slowly growing! There is lots of opposition especially right now across the Czech republic but lots of good things coming! Like this week we might get green hymnbooks! They have been waiting for years to get them and it is close and should be shipped by now! We are expecting 60 here in Liberec! Among other things the Freiburg temple will be rededicated in October, The Mormon tabernacle Choir is coming to Germany, We have district conferences and lots of things! We are excited for what is in store! But ill tell you a little more about this week!

We started off with District meeting on Tuesday. I did a sort of District inventory. I wrote on the board In our District we enjoy... we like... dislike etc. About 10 different things and talked about components of strong relationships. Namely forgiveness, love, and things like that. At the end we each said something about each of us what we do good and what we thought we could improve. It seemed to really strengthen the relationships here and it was really cool.

We had a really cool lesson with this investigator Daniel this week. We had seen him on the street before our lesson and he had a friend with him. He asked if he could bring him too. Daniel is about 18 or 19. It turns out it was his little brother. We had the coolest lesson with them about the restoration. At the end we prayed and Daniel just said "Wow, I really felt something strange during that prayer" It was so cool. We weren't able to meet with him but saw him a few other times this week. I talked to him Saturday night on the street and said he talked to his girlfriend about coming too! And then the jaw dropper! "Yeah I've been telling all my friends about what i felt. I have like 10 that want to come. Can we do that next week?" It should be fun! We are excited! We also had another interesting lesson this week. It is with an investigator who really didn't like our message too much. He saw us go to the building one afternoon. We were about to eat lunch when our zvonek rang. It was him. We had a lesson about his concerns and finally we invited our branch president to come in(he had been working in the other room) Those were the last words we said. Our branch president Killed it! for an hour with scripture after story after scripture and testimony. It was a learning experience! However he still has lots of doubts and won't read the book of Mormon. It can be frustrating!

Another cool experience this week was on a bus. I contacted this two people and then the bus driver said something. I thought he said to stop so i waited patiently. He looked like the same one that gave me an assigned seat a few weeks ago. He seemed to be motioning to me but i pretended i didn't understand. As i got off the bus he asked me what i was offering people. I said faith and god. He then asked us to ride to the end of the stop with him and talk about it. We weren't able to but we left him our number. It was just cool to see how he was interested when everyone else wasn't!

We also helped an English student this week translate a court case! He is an investigator and he needed help making the English sound more right. It was kinda cool! Valentines day came and went here. Good news was chocolate was on a major sale. I may have had some good chocolates. We have been doing lots of tracting recently but not too much going on! Sunday night however that family we met a couple of weeks ago said we could come back again! we are excited for that!

However the big thing of the week was Saturday! It was the longest day of my mission. We had studies in the morning, took a bus to the building to have language study with the sisters. Then we had a lesson fall through so we grabbed lunch and headed to the train station. The train starts going and 20 minutes later we aer in Poland.... Uh oh and ten minutes later we are in Germany! However we made it back into the Czech republic to visit a less active! Don't worry we had permission to be on the train! We had a good visit with him, and then had a train back doing weekly planning on the way. We got back and had the coolest lesson with this guy Adam. He said he wanted to study the Bible with us but ended up just wanting to know about Joseph and then the plan of salvation and then baptism! Super cool lesson. We then had a another lesson that fell through so we took off to tract for an hour and then back to the building to clean it for Sunday and home! It was a full day!

Sunday was a great day. The only problem was we had all three hours of church in the chapel.. It was kinda long! But still great! We tracted Sunday afternoon and then Monday came! This morning i had visa work in Prague. I was with my old MTC group which was lots of fun and then we had lunch together and went and explored Prague. It was a fun day! This week will be another busy week! We have to go to Prague on Friday again for my companion and his Visa and then next week again for training. Other than that things are going well!

Love ya!

Week 7 Liberec

Hey all,
Things are going great here in Liberec and missionary work is picking up. After last week of lots of finding we got to begun harvesting some of our labors. We had almost 3-5 lessons set up each day which is more than i have taught as sit down lessons my whole transfer here in liberec. This week in total we had about 25 lessons set up mostly with phone numbers also. 17 ended up not showing up... But those 8 that did were all in groups of two and became new investigators! We found some really cool people! There was the wife we found last week while tracting that agreed to let us come back. Wednesday night this week, we went back and rang the zvonek. Random fact here in houses they all have about 3 or 4 families. who live in them. So we rang their zvonek. The husband came to the door... we explained that we were here as missionaries, yelling through the fence. He then said yes my wife said something about that. You can come in. It was such a cool lesson! We just started and taught them the whole restoration. They weren't much of believers. But they said they would read the book of Mormon. They gave us some tea and were super nice. They have teenagers and are exactly who we are looking for. It was awesome! We have also taught a couple of 15 and 16 year old boys this week that has been really cool! We did have to drop our two baptismal dates but we have a lot of other people that could be prepared.

This week in district meeting i talked about relationships with members. We have had about 10 people at church the last couple of weeks. We talked to the branch president and 6 months ago they had 35 every week! It is crazy how much opposition we are facing right now here. The stake is around the corner. He told us we have the numbers and we are just waiting to see. Satan is working so hard and missionary work has really struggling but we keep pushing on and are starting to see things start again. Agency, opposition and faith is president mcConkies favorite thing to talk about and where they all fall together. We had some funny stories this week. one of those 15 year olds prayed with us and he prayed in his prayer that he can find a pretty wife and have 3 kids. It was quite the specific prayer!

We did some more tabling this week which we have seen really have success. When we have lots of Book of Mormons in lots of different languages people are just interested. We found a few new investigators and gave out about 5 books.

We had one of the weirdest lessons this week! We had taught a mom on the street the other day who set up for something this week. She couldn't do it at the time so we changed it to Friday. We couldn't remember exactly where we had met so we tried to find it about 10 minutes early. We walked past this couple who we recognized the dad. We had contacted him a few weeks ago, and he didn't want to talk to us. So we said hi and just kept going. They then called out that they had a meeting with us. It was such a strange start and then just got stranger. They said they would come to church and we talked a little about baptism and they said see ya later. we were so confused still! But it was still cool. This week we had a little snow again but it is pretty warm and all melted. Heavenly father knows we love to contact in the snow. During our studies the snow had stopped but as we got ready to go out again. He turned it back on for us!

I was having a harder day this week. When all of a sudden this lady flicked me off! That never happens here at least not that sign! It just got me going! We also met two old geezers this week. They were hilarious. As we told them we were Mormons they talked themselves into something that we were all living together in houses with men and woman. It was pretty hilarious. They were pretty funny guys! Didn't have interest. But got us laughing pretty good. We have done a lot of tracting this week and have more on plan. We are excited for things that are coming! We have lots of things going on still.

Fast Sunday was great and we had a really cool fast. Everyone bore their testimony. After a woman called us who we left a card with and wanted to meet! So cool! We had a meeting with her tonight but she lives in another town and is actually coming tomorrow.
One of our investigators came across some anti material this week so i had a fun conversation over the phone but things are going well. Love hearing from you and hope you have a great week!

Love ya,

Tyler

Week 6 - Liberec -- February begins!

Hey all,
We had a great week here in Liberec! We started back in Prague on Tuesday for training and had an amazing training. President started it off asking us about who we were as a mission, what our mission culture is. It was really cool to look at it as a whole. He went on to talk about his favorite topic and one that is really central to us here. Agency, opposition and faith. Those three topics really seem to collide as missionaries and he gave a really good training on that, how to face opposition. The best line from it was "In this mission you learn to walk with God, in the name of Jesus Christ" That was how he ended his part. It was pretty crazy! At the end of every training we have a Jesus thought and he talked about Jesus and the titles he uses. They describe our relationship with him and what it can be. This time it was about him as the physician and how Jesus steps in when the world would step back. When we have sin and mistakes, he steps in. It was a really cool thought! The big come away though was on Asking for referrals. President talked about how we are looking for a needle in the Haystack. We are going to find a lot of pieces of hay. And then Ask the hay if they've seen the needle. Just ask the Hay. It was a pretty humorous bit but also is something we have changed here. We have improved asking for referrals a lot. I know it is something Shad did and i have tried it a few times but no one gives us anything. However we have seen a difference in our area. We have almost 16 potentials who could become investigators this week and we had an amazing week. We spent almost all day every day finding and were really blessed finding prepared people. At training we also got Mail and I hit the Jack pot. I had a ton of mail waiting and that was really fun! I also got new name tags HANISZ like our name was spelled a few times. They are pretty cool.. People also pronounce it hanush. It is fun! This week while tracting we came across a HANus. It was pretty cool! An investigator from Ostrava gave My old companion a lot of chocolate and a nice letter to give to me which was also really nice.

This week i have really fallen in love with missionary work. There wasn't a single rejection that got me down and i was happy and enthusiastic which is something i have had but really improved showing it this week. Like i said we met some of the coolest people this week. We are so excited for what this week has in store. Already today we had two of those people come and have another person on baptismal date. It is exciting here. We spent some time tracting this week as well! We had some successes and people that said we could come back. One later almost slammed the window and then as we kept talking she said we could come back. It was pretty funny because you could tell she couldn't believe she was going to try this! Sunday was another good Sunday here. The branch is pretty small but it is great. Later in the day pretty much all of our plans fell through which can be really hard because everyone leaves the city during the weekend to begin with and after 5 on a weekday no one is outside. We actually ended up running into a semi investigator who had created some concerns about us. We ended up teaching a really cool lesson and it was really cool to see the spirit testify right to him and by the end he had no more concerns and said we might be right.

We have had such a good week and time is flying. Missionary work is awesome and we have a lot in store. I hope all goes well and i pray for you all. Love You
