Week 7 - Prague

Well this has been another busy week! We had some really cool experiences. four days in a row people just wanted to meet at once. Last Saturday we were in a park and a guy was sitting down. We started talking to him and he asked us to sit down and we had a lesson for about 30 minutes. Then come Sunday, we walk out of the church building, meet this guy and he wants to sit down and talk. He comes in and we make some čaj and have a lesson. Then Monday in the park and we talk to a guy and we go sit down on the grass and teach. Tuesday a guy right in front of the building has time for a building tour! Pretty cool little miracles. It was a good week all in all. I was on an exchange for at least a part of every day.
Monday I was with other missionaries in Prague. Then Tuesday missionaries from Bratislava came and we had a great exchange with them. We went tracting and both of us felt like we should tract this one house. Right before we rang the doorbell i realized it was the stake presidents house. That was almost awkward! Phew. Wednesday it was cold and rainy and all our plans fell through. One cool thing was we were supposed to do a singing display at this one spot. We had ended up going by tram instead of metro. and the other missionaries had decided to get off the metro one stop early. At the metro stop where we wanted to sing there had been an accident down below. Cool to see the lord watching out for us.

That night we wanted to drive the missionaries back to Bratislava on our way to Ban-ska Bystrice. What should have been a two hour drive to Brno took 5 so we had to stay the night in Brno. And then 5 more hours the next day to banska bystrice. We were little stopped on the freeway and got out and talked to some people! Fun times. Thursday we were in Banska Bystrice and had good exchanges we found a few new investigators and tracted some panalaks. Things were good. It was fun to be with those missionaries . One Elder Bednar was in the MTC with us. His parents are going to be mission presidents so he is going home in two weeks. We told lots of stories from the MTC and our missions. On the 6 hour drive back to Prague on Friday we felt we should all of a sudden tract in this little town we were driving though. No idea why but we did. Not too much seen success. There were no problems on the drive so we were blessed! We got back and went to a wedding ceremony for two YSA in the ward. IT was fun but kinda weird. For the Music as they walked down the aisle it was the music from Star Wars. Darth vader for the groom and the good music for the bride. Pretty funny! We had a great visit with a member after and had a good P day today. Played some more squash this morning and went to a museum after.

Its been a good week! This week we have two trainings, two exchanges, stake conference and some meetings! Things are great
Love you!

Week 6 - Prague - Easter

Easter was a great weekend and also Monday here in the Czech republic. We got to do a few visits and We again had a table on the street showing the video from the church to everyone! Sunday night as a district we all went over to presidents home and we cooked Halusky (it's a big meal from Slovakia) for president and his wife. IT was a blast. It was like cooking with Mom and Dad. We used about 5 Kg of potatoes, 3 kg of bacon, and 1.5 kilos of bryndza (goat cheese from Slovakia) IT was a great Easter meal!

We had a lot of cool experiences with sharing the video about Christ. Members showed it to lots of their friends. We had one opportunity to share it was one of their friends. And we got to testify lots that Christ lives. It is the best message that we have.

On Easter Monday we got to visit the bishop with the senior couple here in Prague and they made burgers for us which was pretty fun! We had a great visit and that night we had the last FHE with that senior couple before they leave.

We had a great lesson with Michal this week about The atonement and he is going to pass the sacrament this week for the first time! Thursday we had MLC which was great. WE focused all on finding, and urgency and recent converts we had some great discussion and we will have some great zone trainings soon. President bought a copy of the power of everyday missionaries for all the leaders so we have been able to read that too and it is great! I had an exchange with my district leader on Friday and had a good day.

This week we had one cool experience. We were waiting above a metro stop for a lesson that was supposed to come. She hadn't come and I saw I guy and had the thought I needed to stop him and talk. Didn't listen. about 15 seconds later we decided the lady wasn't coming so I took off running after that guy. Down into the metro, down the escalator just as the train got there and hopped on and started talking to him. turned out to be a really nice guy and had a family. In the end, didn't want to meet but it was cool to see that he was open to hearing our message. IT was a great week and lots more to come!

Love you all!

Week 5 - Prague

Another busy week! We finished conference last Sunday which was great! The talks were good! Sunday night we got to go visit the stake president and his family and shared the Easter video with them. It was a really spiritual visit. We have had the opportunity to visit a lot of members and share the video and everyone has had someone to mind with whom they would want to share it. If you haven't seen it, its on mormon.org so go and watch it and share it too! Monday we had a good day. After our meetings in the morning president came out and gave us his tablet to go finding with for a while! That was pretty fun!

Tuesday a sister that has been visa waiting came into the country! We went to the airport and picked her up and things. Always fun. Wednesday we headed to plzen on an exchange. Their bishop has gotten them a market spot on the town square to show the Easter video and talk to people all week! We helped out with that and did some good things! We ended up bringing back other missionaries from CBUD to  help us that night before interviews with president. Elder Shirley and I were together and had a pretty fun member visit. When we asked if we could do anything for him, he said he had been waiting to ask. The doctor had forgotten to take on stitch out of his head and his wife wouldn't do it. Well its out! Thursday we had an interesting meeting in the morning and then in the afternoon we had a special district meeting about Christ. Followed by a district dinner at presidents and then we had a mission prayer through teleconference. to start a mission fast for missionary work. It was a really spiritual moment. President is so inspired. After wards i had a great interview with him.

Friday here in Prague we had a television out on the street and talked to people for hours! President even came out and contacted with us! Pretty fun! We ended our fast and had a great night.

Today was a fun P day. We played squash in the morning with all the elders and then we went and toured around Prague. Looking at churches and fun things. Lots of Fun. We had some last active finding and contacting tonight and had a lot of success. We found two families! Excited for a new week and it should be good!
Love you!

Week 4 - Prague

Well it has been another busy week here in Prague. This time we were in Prague the whole week which was good! Sunday an investigator from Mexico made empanadas for us for lunch which was pretty cool! Sacrament was great and we got to go into the primary for the third hour. on the street We saw a guy with a shirt that said "don't mess with Texas" we got to talk to them for a while.

Monday we had an office meeting, had apartment checks, and haircuts. and then at Family home evening we had a really cool experience. So we have been teaching this girl Kristina. She is also a friend of a member and after Michal's baptism we set a date with her. Turns out that date wouldn't work for her friends to come. so we sat down with everybody and picked a date. Then the next day she was a little weary of baptism and didn't want it. So the sisters had a few lessons with her and at FHE we were talking and she said so i was gonna postpone my baptism but I'm actually not. When i asked what changed she said " well i guess i got a testimony" It was pretty cool! So the sisters are mostly teaching her now but she will probably be baptized on the 21 April. We had two exchanges this week with zone leaders from Plzen and Hradec Kralove. I was with Elder Picket the first day. WE had a great day and rode on a lot of trams! Lots of fun. Then i was with Elder Carlson. I had served with him in Brno. It was a great day. We work really well together and worked really hard.

We were supposed to visit a member that night. WE got to his house and called and he said that he was there.. at the building. That was kinda awkward. So we raced back to the building. Thursday missionary's were here for visa work so i had to wait in the mission office so someone would be here with Elder Collins, the guy i trained a year ago. A lot of fun to get to study with him again. We had dinner at a members house that night and showed the prince of peace video.

A few weeks ago we had all the missionaries film them doing a practice finding situation and Friday we got to watch them all with president. We are working on preparing a training to help us talk to people better. We than had a service project like we had last year for cleaning the Czech republic. It was cold and rainy and we picked up trash for a while.

Today we watched the first three sessions of conference. I am pretty tried. I missed a couple of talks but it was all great. I really enjoyed priesthood session! Things are going great. Hope you have a great week! Love you!

Week 3 - Prague

So last Saturday Michal got baptized and it was awesome! There were more than 50 people there and he had invited a lot of his friends! Who came and our other investigators! His friend who got baptized four months ago baptized him and they were both friends of a member who referred them! It was awesome!
Sunday was a pretty great day! We had three investigators at church! Michal got the gift of the Holy Ghost. One investigator paid tithing and we gave him a blessing! After church Michal and a lot of this group that has been baptized recently made us all lunch! We then watched some videos of missionaries with president. WE had all the missionaries record themselves doing a role play of finding. Then every Sunday night we have what are called inspirational nights. All the ward missionaries are supposed to bring a friend each week and we have food and a game and then a thought. It was awesome!

Then comes Monday it was a long day. We got to the office at 7 in the morning and got home at 1030 at night.  We had an office meeting and then a meeting with this girl Kristina. She had a really spiritual experience at the baptism and was at church and the inspirational night. We talked about baptism and she really wants to get baptized. Shes great friends with a lot of people and we are team teaching with the sisters! Shes awesome! We also had a lesson with Michal and hes doing great. WE had another lesson with him yesterday and is preparing for the priesthood.

Tuesday and Thursday this week we had training. One here in Prague and the other in Bratislava! They were really good. We focused a lot on Easter and did some role plays using the Easter Initiative. We have planned with president to have a big activity in every city during the next two weeks so its gonna be great! President talked about urgency and we gave everyone a quote to read every day before they leave! We also got to train and we talked about selfrelicne in the gospel. How we can teach people how to study the scriptures, pray sincerely, appreciate the sacrament and knowing the Holy Ghost. We focused it all in Jesus Christ. They were great!

Tuesday we had some lessons with less actives and then Wednesday! we went early to Brno! We were there on exchanges and saw lots of members and things and had a really successful day. Had one new baptismal date by the end.

Friday i was on splits with Elder Wutzke. I actually met him at EFY in Texas about 3 years ago. He just got here and is serving in Prague too. We taught a great lesson. Today we had a great day. Did service. Had two lesson. One was awesome and the other was a guy who had typed up reasons why our doctrine was wrong. But now its great! Hope the week has been good. Mam vas rad.

Week 2 - Prague

Well this week has almost been as crazy as the first! Church last week was awesome! Really fun members, and member missionary work is in full swing! There is a family From Utah that is here. Both of them served missions here about 24 years ago, and the fathers parents are Czech. They lived here about 10 years ago for their older children to learn Czech and now they are back again for their younger children to learn and they are incredible member missionaries! Every Sunday they have an inspirational night at their house. They called 5 new ward missionaries about 2 months ago. And every week they are supposed to bring a friend to this nights. We play games and things and then have spiritual thoughts. They have it structured out so the people there for the first time learn about god and things.

Then we are supposed to set up with them during the week. To make the transition the Pohorelciti invite us to teach at their house which is the third story of the church building! So its pretty awesome! Most of our investiatiors are from this! Last Sunday there was also a family from Florida. They had two boys.. Both played water polo. Got to talk to them for a while. There mom got baptized about 3 months ago and they are still investigating. Pretty cool!
Sunday night at 9 finally got everything for standards and hit standards! Then had call ins and a long night. Monday we had a meeting with Kristina, who is from those inspirationlanights. We taught with sister Pohorelicka and taught about Jesus Christ, Repentance and Baptism. She now has a baptismal date for the 29 of APril! We had a lesson with Michal covering the last things before his baptism today!

We had MLC all day on Tuesday and then started an exchange! Lots of great things coming! We are planning a lot of things for Easter! We had a lesson with a guy named Destiny that night fro Nigeria. We went really in depth into the authority and church of God. Elder Trythall and i taught together. He just replaced me in Slovakia. Wednesday we got a new sticker in our car! There's a picture below! Had a good exchange! some more lessons and things. Last lesson with Michal! Thursday we had a long planning meeting with president. Then went and had lunch and played games with the family from Florida. Shared a Message about god. It went really well! That night we had some member visits. Yesterday we were in Brno for Progressive training with all the new missionaries and it was a lot of fun!

Today is Michal's Baptism! Its gonna be so cool! I was here in Prague 8 months ago on an exchange when we taught him his first lesson. He is also a referral from a member. And now i am here for his baptism. Things are going really well! Its pretty busy but it is great! Hope things are well! Love ya

Week 1 - Prague, Czech Republic

Well, this week has been one of the craziest yet! AS I mentioned last week I got here and went straight into a meeting with president. Last Monday we had a meeting with a guy who is preparing for baptism. His name is Michal. I actually know him. When i was serving in Brno i was here in Prague on an exchange and we taught him for the very first time. This time we taught him at a members house and he had his baptismal interview yesterday and is getting baptized next Saturday! Pretty cool!

But after that we had a fireside Monday night with all the trainers, and missionaries going home at president's house, we then had call ins with zone leaders and got home about 1015. We had a good morning Tuesday, a meeting with president, and then went to the airport to pick up the new missionaries. Ten of them came. It was a lot of fun! We ended up getting a little lost on the way back but eventually made it. We took them all on a walk around Prague, keeping them awake and wearing them out. We had dinner with them, told them about the mission, and then took them contacting for the first time. We dropped them off at the place they were staying and got home late. Then early up Wednesday morning. Picked all the new missionaries up at 7. We had breakfast with them and the  trainers and had a meeting where they all got assigned areas. We then had to take them to the notary, and get them legal in the country. There are no office elders so we are in charge of the visa stuff as well. Finally we had a little time to go and talk to people before having the departing missionary dinner and testimony meeting. It was a pretty fun dinner but sad night. Then up at 3 Thursday morning to take the missionary to the airport. Pretty weird to send them off. We got back to the mission home at 6 and we got to take an hour nap. We had district meeting and district finding, before having a meeting with president preparing things for MLC. We had a meeting with an investigator from Ghana and had a lot of work to get done after that. Friday we had a call meeting with all the new district leaders and then had some time to find before going to Stamberk. That is the place where we had the mission conference during Christmas. They had a two day retreat thing for new members of the last year, as well as a family history conference. We were there to support and help. And it was a blast. So much fun to see lots of members and people from all my past areas. It was a blast, We slept there and then this morning came back to Prague. IT has been a crazy week. Lots going on but it has been great. I am already exhausted but we just keep on going. Hope all is well!
S Laskou,
